Cynanchum Marnierianum is a captivating, leafless succulent from the dry forests of Madagascar. Its slender, cylindrical stems grow in a sprawling or trailing habit, reaching up to 60 cm (24 inches) in length. The stems are mottled in shades of grey, brown, and bronze, perfectly mimicking lifeless twigs—a clever camouflage that helps it avoid being eaten by thirsty animals in its native habitat . This plant is commonly known as Bundle of Sticks, Dead Stick Plant, or Bird Cage Plant.
The Bird Cage Flowers
Despite its "dead stick" appearance, this plant produces extraordinary flowers. During summer to autumn, tiny intricate blossoms with a delicate, open-weave structure appear along the stems. These remarkable flowers resemble miniature bird cages, giving the plant one of its most charming common names.
